Given the right conditions Crinodendron hookerianum is a strong growing evergreen shrub of upright habit and long dark stems clothed with narrow, willow-like leaves. The pendent crimson flowers open in May, having been apparent for several months in the tight bud stage. They are urn-shaped and borne singly on long stalks from the upper axils. It needs acidic, moist soil, especially during the growing season, and it should not be allowed to dry out during summer droughts.

Cultivation

Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained, acid soil in a sheltered position, in partial shade or in sun where the roots can be kept cool and shaded. Young shoots and flower buds may be damaged by late frosts.
